Changes can be costly, however when a project is moving along like a snail, it can be rather easy to change one’s mind!!!!! So take a look where we’re at with the kitchen.

Meet our contractor, Robin. Dan, my other half and the architect on the project, and Robin are meeting to discuss scheduling. Not riveting viewing, ha, but something that absolutely has to happen so that we can stay on track.

After a strenuous stress filled number of reno days……. it was time for some serious retail therapy. The destination? Queen West Antiques. I had been on the hunt for some vintage Bertoia chairs, and got a tip from my buddy Jake, of Machine Age Modern, that Mike and Amy, the owners of Queen West Antiques, had just received a number of white, with red pad, Bertoia chairs. It was time to head on down, so I could reserve six of them for myself. Oh, and I scouted the whole store to give you a look at all the great stuff they currently have on the floor.

Mark and Robin, the contractors, made us a temporary shower in the basement. I bought a shower pan at the Habitat Re-Store for $40, then the guys rigged up the plumbing. My friend Mirella and I hooked up 3 Ikea shower curtains, and we used wood clamps to attach the plastic to the pan in an attempt to stop the water from sloshing everywhere. There’s nothing better than hot water to ease the pain of renovating.

After a week of shopping for bathroom fixtures, I’ve had a moment to update you on the recent changes. Sourcing bathroom fixtures is a full-time job – Price comparison, availability, and finding helpful retailers can be quite a challenge. I was lucky to find Natalie at Roman Bath Centre as well as Leslie at Maia Plumbing Supplies, both have been incredibly helpful with regards to decision making, and suggestions.

This week, we have made great progression in that the front room has been insulated with Roxul Safe’n'Sound, and both the drywall and plaster have been done. The electrician has also hooked up the pot lights and will finish this weekend. On top of all that, we also gutted the bathroom back to the studs. For the next 2 weeks, bathing and daily routines are out the window…

More from the world of lath and plaster…

Wow, the lath and plaster is certainly beautiful (see attached lath and plaster shots, the video is in the next post).  I have decided to get my photographer Donna Griffith to come and do some photography before all of the the lath comes down.  I think once the room is finished and all white, I will choose three of the lath and plaster prints to have enlarged and framed.  They will really stand out against the new white walls.

The texture is fabulous, and the wood is very warm. It looks and feels what it might be like if you were a bird, living in a birds nest. Click on the pics to see them full size.

Renovations started in early April.

Just so you know, I shoot everything on the blog using my Flip Video

A great shot…

The day before it all began…
